「Vacant Land 」
I have long sensed something resembling a black void expanding deep within the pupils of animals.
There are moments when something invisible to the eye quietly emerges from within things.
When a new concept arises from that invisible realm, I call it kyo, the state of emptiness.
A similar sensation appears in the intervals between objects, in the gaps or hollow spaces that seem to breathe within them.
I am particularly drawn to presences that exist within the landscape yet never fully dissolve into it.
For me, painting is an attempt to evoke this sense of kyo for the viewer, and each motif serves as a focal point through which the invisible may appear.
During the process of painting, the fluid brushstrokes developed through the depiction of animal fur play an essential role.
They are not lines that describe form, but gestures that arise when the act of painting shifts ever so slightly from the artist to the brush.
As these strokes overlap and merge, the surface takes on a stillness close to that of a blank field, and within that stillness, the presence of “nothingness” begins to reemerge.
When the viewer encounters such a structure, there may come a moment of release, a quiet suspension of self-awareness, through which an unseen presence may be felt and the painting seems to awaken.

「Vacant Land / 空き地」
故郷に帰省した際、近所の家が空き地になっていた。
そこには子供の頃の思い出が沢山あった。
痩せた老夫婦、奇妙な形をしたイチジクの木、よく吠える黒犬、草むらの陰からこちらを見据える白猫。
そんな数々の記憶があったが、家が空き家になってからはいつしか忘れていた。
たまに空き家を目にしても何も感じることはなかった。
しかしある日突然、その家が空き地となって目の前に現れた。
その瞬間、かつての家の姿が物質として存在していた頃よりも、鮮明に蘇った。
目を凝らすとさまざまなモノやコトがひっそりと、その地の奥に潜んでいるのが感じられた。
そこはとても充実した「無地の世界」だった。
静かなその空間を遠い面持ちで眺めていると、
頭の中が次第に騒がしくなり、意識がゆっくりと移動していく気配を感じた。
それは、記憶のある土地から、まだ記憶のない土地へと誘われていく旅のはじまりのような感覚だった。
